Stoatmod / Scam and global-safety guide

How to report scams and appeal global bans on Stoat

Report suspected scams to Stoat's abuse team for platform action, then send a separate Stoatmod report when protection across Stoatmod-enabled servers may also be needed. The two routes serve different purposes.

Report the account to the Stoat abuse team

Platform abuse should be reported to the Stoat abuse team. Right-click the offending message in Stoat and use its report option, or email abuse@stoat.chat. This is the primary route for Stoat platform enforcement; reporting to Stoatmod does not replace it.

  • Preserve the exact Stoat user ID, message link, server and channel context, and time of the incident.
  • Include screenshots only when they add useful context, and do not crop away information needed to understand the report.
  • Do not click suspected scam links, download files, send money or share passwords, login codes, recovery codes or session details.
  • Block the account and alert trusted server moderators when there is an immediate risk to other members.
abuse@stoat.chat

Email the Stoat abuse team when the in-app message report is unavailable or more context is required.

Important: Use Stoat's message-report action or abuse@stoat.chat even when you also make a Stoatmod global report.

Send a Stoatmod global report

Run the global-report command inside a server to receive a private Stoatmod report link. A global report goes to the Stoatmod team for a possible network-wide ban review. Submitting a report never itself creates a global ban; it starts a human review. The separate ~report command sends a server-scoped report to that server's moderators instead.

  1. 01

    Start the report

Run the command inside a Stoat server so Stoatmod can issue your private reporting link.

    ~global_report
  2. 02

    Identify the account

Enter the exact 26-character Stoat user ID rather than relying only on a display name.

  3. 03

    Explain the scam

Describe what happened and attach relevant message links, screenshots or other evidence.

  4. 04

    Keep the receipt

Save the private receipt link and use it to read requests for more information and the final review outcome.

Why both reports matter

Stoat abuse reports reach the platform team. Stoatmod global reports reach the Stoatmod safety team. Once a human-approved global ban, or the narrow automatic account-username ban below, is recorded, the bot attempts to ban that account from connected servers where it has the required permission and enforces the ban when the account later joins.

That rapid network protection can remove a reported account from protected servers before it can act there. A missing permission, unavailable server or temporary connection problem can delay or prevent enforcement, so moderators must still verify the real member and ban state.

Important: A Stoatmod global ban protects participating servers; it is not a substitute for reporting platform abuse to Stoat.

Zero-tolerance account-username rule

Stoatmod has one automatic global-ban rule: when a Stoat account username contains a literal, case-insensitive match for one of the four configured zero-tolerance slurs, including inside a longer username, Stoatmod automatically records a global ban and sends it to connected servers. This is a deterministic literal-list match, not an AI confidence score, fuzzy match or report outcome.

The rule applies only to the Stoat account username. The same term in a server nickname never creates a global ban; Stoatmod records a server-level warning and attempts to restore the previous safe nickname instead.

Ordinary profanity is outside the zero-tolerance list. If normal name moderation flags it in an account username or server nickname, it starts with a server-level warning and nickname-reset attempt. Any later warning-policy escalation remains limited to that server.

Important: Except for this single deterministic account-username rule, every global ban requires human approval. A server report or global report never triggers the automatic username rule and never itself bans the reported account.

Appeal a Stoatmod global ban

The only way to appeal a Stoatmod global ban is to email admin@modstoat.site. The normal server appeal page, server moderators and appeal commands cannot review or remove a global ban.

  • Include your exact Stoat user ID.
  • Include the global-ban reference from the notice, when available.
  • Explain why the decision or automatic recognition was wrong.
  • Attach concise evidence that directly supports the appeal.
  • Never include passwords, login codes, session cookies or unrelated personal information.
admin@modstoat.site

The sole appeal address for Stoatmod global bans.

Important: Emailing abuse@stoat.chat reports platform abuse to Stoat; it does not appeal a separate Stoatmod global ban.
